Hurricane Ivan and Thoughts on Life

Florida's weather in the summer sucks. Everday, your guaranteed to step out of the house and start sweating profusely before you even make it to the oven that is your car. Imagine what it is like with no air conditioning! Hurricanes are no laughing matter either! Parts of Florida were lucky enough to miss Charlie and be on the east coast for Frances. Now, the category 5 storm Ivan wants to play around with us and toy with our anxiety. The experts will tell you that there is nothing that we can do to change the outcome of the storm's path. I think that is false, and this is why I think we should boycott hurricanes.

Hurricanes can cause mass destruction and chaos. For example, take hurricane Ivan and Grenada. "We are terribly devastated ... It's beyond imagination," the Prime Minister, Keith Mitchell announced to the world. 90% of the building in Grenada recieved damage from the hurricane! They had to recieve international military help too because of the widespread looting. If Grenada has boycotted Ivan, none of this would have happened.

Counties that are in the dreaded "hurricane watch" zone have to "be prepared," just like the old boy scout's motto. We have to buy food, plywood, batteries, llamas and sometimes even sundry items like vintage alarm clocks. While this does contribute to the economy, the decimation that the hurricane could bring is far more expensive. Hurricane Charlie, for example, was estimated to cause over $5 Billion of destruction! This is $5 Billion down the drain, that I would also like to add is overflowing.

Hurricanes want to come up in our business and try to destroy our land? Bullshit. If we simply boycotted hurricanes, none of this would be a problem. You might be saying, "U cant boycot a hurrican!!!!11." To this question I retort, "Have you ever tried?" If we stuck together, a state united, we would have the power to boycott a hurricane.

Join the movement! To help boycott the hurricane, the first action is don't prepare at all. While this may seem like a stupid thing to do, it will show the hurricane that we mean business. Secondly, everyone needs to gather on the beaches of where we will be experiencing the direct hit from the eye. Armed with signs, banners, anti-hurricane propaganda and attitude, we will march up and down the coast demanding the hurricane change course. Texas? Whatever, just leave us be.

All jokes aside, it's funny how this hurricane has already killed many people. Nature is devestating! Yet, everyday, humans kill each other out of stupidity, fear and money. The people in Florida should be more afraid of their own race then a category 5 hurricane with 160 mph winds. I guess the thought of possibly losing everything of materialistic value puts things in perspective.
